My trip to Cancun officially begins this Tuesday, May 19th, and I’ll be spending five full days at the Hyatt Ziva Cancun.
The countdown is over.
As for this week’s weigh-in, I didn’t quite reach my goal of 260 pounds, but I did manage to lose a little weight, going from 266.8 pounds to 266.5 pounds.
Not exactly headline-worthy progress.
But honestly? Considering how I approached this week mentally, I’m happy the scale moved downward at all.
My Mindset Shifted This Week
If I’m being honest, my focus this past week wasn’t:
“Let’s attack these final six pounds.”
It was more like:
“I’m about to spend a week at an all-inclusive resort.”
And with that mindset came the little negotiations:
- Maybe a little more chocolate
- Maybe that one soda
- Maybe easing up because cocktails and vacation are coming anyway
That’s how it starts.
Not with one massive decision — but with small permissions that slowly loosen discipline.
The difference now is that I actually recognized it happening.
That’s progress too.
Activity Was Still There
Even though my nutrition focus slipped a little, I wasn’t inactive.
I still made it to the gym twice this week.
I also:
- Walked more
- Spent time outside
- Hit golf balls
- Stayed generally active
That’s one thing I’m learning through this process:
Movement matters.
Even when things aren’t perfect, staying active keeps me connected to the lifestyle I’m trying to build.
My Cancun Routine
One thing I’m actually excited about is creating a relaxing but active routine while I’m in Cancun.
I already know myself well enough to know I’ll naturally wake up around 5:30–6:00 AM, even on vacation.
And honestly, that sounds perfect there.
I can already picture it:
- Walking the resort grounds early in the morning
- Listening to the waves
- Watching the ocean before the crowds wake up
- Starting the day slowly and intentionally
Then ideally:
- Gym around 7:00 AM for a quick 30-minute workout
- Breakfast around 8:00
- Pool or beach time during the morning
- Lunch around noon
- Relaxing in the shade, reading, napping, or simply slowing down for once
Maybe another walk later in the afternoon.
Maybe some cardio.
Maybe just enjoying being outside and moving naturally.
Dinner around 7:00 PM, followed by the nightly entertainment, a stop at the sports bar, and then winding down around 11:00 PM.
That sounds less like a “diet vacation” and more like balance.
The Bigger Realization
This trip is no longer just about trying to hit a number on the scale before getting on a plane.
It’s become something bigger.
A checkpoint.
A chance to step away from routine and honestly evaluate:
- What’s working
- What isn’t
- What habits I want to keep
- And what kind of lifestyle I want moving forward
Because the truth is, this journey doesn’t end after Cancun.
In many ways, Cancun is the starting line for the next phase.
Looking Ahead
When I come back, I’m going to take a serious look at my long-term goals for the rest of 2026.
Not unrealistic goals.
Not crash-diet goals.
Real goals.
Sustainable goals.
The kind built on:
- Consistent workouts
- Better eating habits
- Daily movement
- Accountability
- Patience
For the first time in a long time, I genuinely believe I can continue losing weight steadily over the next several months.
Not because I found some magic solution.
But because I’m slowly changing how I think.
Final Thought
Would I have loved to step on the plane at 260 pounds?
Absolutely.
But this process has already taught me something important:
Progress is rarely perfect.
Some weeks are big wins.
Some weeks are tiny steps.
Some weeks are simply about not going backward.
And this week, despite the temptations and the vacation mindset creeping in, I still moved forward.
Even if only by 0.3 pounds.
Now it’s time to enjoy Cancun, recharge mentally, stay active, make memories, and come back ready for the next chapter.
Let’s get to Cancun.
